

Virginia Vogt Thompson, 88, of Atlanta, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 14, 2016. Born in Frostproof, FL on January 29, 1928, to William Vassie Vogt and Helen Heisley Vogt, she was the youngest of four sisters.
Virginia was a graduate of Florida State University, moved to Atlanta in 1952 and worked for Akers Motor Lines and Emory University. In 1954, she married Charles Wesley Thompson, Sr., D.D.S. of Bladenboro, NC. Together, they were life-long members of Mount Paran Church of God, actively involved in church and community, and they loved to travel.
Virginia was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, and good friend to many. She was known for her dedication, spunky personality, and sense of humor. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and her three sisters. Survivors include her children Charles Wesley Thompson, Jr. and his wife Lisa Mortensen Thompson of Alpharetta, Paula Thompson Collins and her husband Michael Lee Collins of Atlanta, William Frederick Thompson and his wife Cynthia Peret Thompson of Gig Harbor, WA; five grandchildren Suzanne Leigh Thompson of Alpharetta, Haley Suzanne Collins and William Lee Collins of Atlanta, Corey Vogt Thompson of Santa Clara, CA and Reid Peret Thompson of Bellevue, WA; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 22, 2016, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at H. M. Patterson & Son Arlington Chapel in Sandy Springs. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Todd Rainwater officiating. Burial will be at Arlington Memorial Park.
