

Doris Bennett was 97 years old when she peacefully passed August 30, 2022 at her home in Oakmonte Village, Lake Mary Florida. Doris had an exciting and rewarding life. She was a firm believer that living life to your fullest was a goal all should follow, and she did.
Doris was born in Wilson Louisiana on June 18, 1925. Her parents were Elsie Mae Cunningham and Robert Aden Armitage. Doris attended school in Raymond Mississippi and later attended College at Hinds Junior College where she received her Assoc. Degree. It was in Raymond that she met her future husband Robert L. Bennett. They dated and fell in love and were married as WW 2 was grinding to an end. They married May 1, 1944. Her husband, a pilot in the USAF was then stationed in Washington D.C Doris decided to have her first child in Jackson Mississippi, closer to her mother Elsie. She gave birth to her first child Robert Jr. in September 1945. Then began the moves that would continue along with the growth of their family. The USAF soon called the young family to the Philippines. A distant and foreign place for a 19-year-old girl from Mississippi. But Doris being Doris confidently left home following the footsteps of her beloved husband to different states and countries. From Newfoundland to Okinawa the family traveled moving 28 times in 30 years of service. Doris delighted in raising her there boys in NYC, Montgomery Alabama or Los Angeles. Her life was on full of excitement coupled with a demanding roll as housewife.
Her heritage was born out of a Hungarian immigrant names George Fisher. Known in his Biography as “The Immigrant”. Fisher soon become the first custom officer in Galveston Texas. His final years were spent in San Francisco as the Greek consul. Fisher spoke 6 languages. His legacy offered Doris the opportunity to become a select member of the “daughters of the Republic of Texas”. An honor she proudly carried throughout her life. Finally retiring from the USAF in 1970 Doris’s husband helped found and soon became the President of the Eisenhower National Bank on Ft. Sam Houston, San Antonio. The family had grown with three boys, Robert L. Jr. in 1945, Dana A. in 1948 and Jack A. in 1956.
Again after several more moves Doris and her husband Robert Sr. finally retired to Orlando Florida where their sons Dana and Jack were living. Robert Jr. spent much of his life and career in Round Rock Texas.
Doris’s husband passed in 1996. Her only sister Robbye Armitage, also living in Orlando died the following year. Now on her own Doris continued her travels throughout the world. She said, “Travel was in her bones.” She loved new experiences. After such an exhilarating life Doris retired to Oakmonte Village in Lake Mary Florida.
Her life was one that was well spent. She was hungry for more but the time came for her to pass on and again meet her husband, son Jack and all those she loved.
She had 3 children Robert Jr. Dana and Jack. She also had 6 grandchildren Christina, MacKenzie, Brooks, Hayley, Jason and Bryan. Also, 8 great grandchildren, Samantha, Maxwell, Blaise, Eleanor, Silas, Jackson, Aden and Finn.
She will be missed by all who knew the wonderful woman named Doris…more affectionately known as MAMA B.
