He was born on the 20th of December 1940, in Escanaba, Michigan to the late Robert Oscar and Arlene (Congelton) Handy.
A giant of a man, a proud UP Michigander who grew up in foster care when that was code for free farm labor. Navy corpsman (1958-1963) who took care of Chesty Puller for awhile, then pursued working with the USMC as a Force Recon "Doc" always taking care of his Marines after liberty and in the field. Then switched to AF for better life for his family. Was "Doc" in the AF assigned to SOS and so much more (REDCOM, STRIKCOM, SOCOM, SAC and TAC), I grew up not realizing that everyone's Dad didn't go to work and then disappear from there for several weeks of "training." He retired 1988, in between he was a Coach, buddy, craftsman, car enthusiast, outdoorsman, country doc and always 100% American, but what would you expect from a guy that married his Jr High Sweet Heart, born on the 4th of July....He worked long and hard, started courting the love of his life and future wife (Linda C Bonds) around 15, walking to A&W and back to her house to bring her a burger n fries. Dad, Grand Dad, Bunka and finally G-Pop and Pappa Handy.... for dozens of kids, grand kids and great grand kids, that he dearly loved and missed terribly when he wasn't able to see them. A quiet strong man that could talk to anyone, would help anyone, stand up for those that needed a friend, always watched out for his people and never forgot his Marines,...an amazing heart and hero to me. He's back with his love whom he's missed so much these couple lonely years....love ya Dad,...see ya soon.... He was reunited with his love Linda Carol, leaving behind three sons (Dean, Mike, Ernest "Shay") and his princess Amy Noel. He also had 13 grandkids and 8 great grandkids.
