Born in Charleston, WV, on January 29, 1932, Lyndall was the youngest of three daughters born to Ezra and Ida Mae (Ransom) Pritt. She grew up on the West side of Charleston and graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School with the Class of 1949. She enjoyed an active life in Charleston prior to moving with her husband to Sanford, FL, in 1977.
Lyndall worked in banking for many years, both in West Virginia and Florida, and later retired after 11 years of service with the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office. She was active in the Sanford Hospital Auxiliary, where she assisted in the surgical recovery room and was named the Hospital’s Volunteer of the Year. She also served faithfully in the Order of the Eastern Star, where she loved reading the role of Martha, and was active in supporting the Masonic work of both of her husbands.
Lyndall discovered her love of music at an early age and performed as a vocalist with a big band in her early twenties. She was also a self-taught pianist and sang in church choirs throughout her life. In Sanford she was an active member of Westview Baptist Church, singing in the choir, studying in the Sunday school and enjoying the fellowship of the Word.
Lyndall always said she was blessed to have had two good men in her life. She was married to George Houghton Francis for 32 years prior to his death in 2000, and then to Hestel Ovid Canfield for 19 years prior to his death in 2020. She is survived by a nephew, George Rummel Francis, of Wallace, NC, and his wife Mary, as well as a dear cousin, Sarah Anthony, of Eleanor, WV, and her husband Okey. Also left to mourn her loss are a sister-in-law and friend, Flora Hanger Francis of Hurricane, WV, and Hestel’s son, Charles Canfield, of Ocala, FL, his wife Nina, and their daughters Deanna and Rebecca.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Gregory Ortega and his colleagues at Mid Florida Cancer Center for their effective and compassionate care, which added several good years to Lyndall’s life. The staff and residents at Vitality Living Lake Forest and the caregivers at AdventHealth Hospice Care were also invaluable in maintaining the quality and contentment of Lyndall’s life in her later years.
Friends are invited to join the family for a graveside memorial service on Tuesday, December 23 at 10:00 AM in the Oaklawn Cemetery, 5000 County Road 46A, Sanford, FL.
