Thanksgiving 2020 will be remembered as the day 81-year-old Melvin Arthur Matzinger peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home. Starting his life journey on a farm in Swanton Ohio, February 26, 1939. He was one of twelve children born to Edward Raymond and Evea Mae (Taft) Matzinger. He enjoyed, his dogs, hunting, fishing, boating and camping. Sharing his sense of adventure with his family. In 1969, he relocated his young family to Winter Springs, Florida where he has lived for over 50 years. He was a truck driver in Central Florida from the 70’s to the turn of the century. In his retirement he took up beadwork, ceramics and was an avid volunteer of the Hospitality Committee at Church of the Nativity and a member of the Central Florida Ceramic Guild. He was one of the original GPS’s never losing his sense of direction even as his health declined.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 61 years Julia (Seibert) Matzinger, children Christina (Christopher) Murray, Mark (Tammy) Matzinger, Donna (Dan) Bailey, and Ernest Matzinger. Grandchildren Michael (Myza) Matzinger, Tiffany (Steven) Craig, Amanda Murray, Shawn (Brittany) Murray. Great Grandchildren Brennen, Ethan, Reiss, Cailin, Catherine, James, Alexander, Nathaniel and Delila. Sisters Verna, Mary, Alice, Barb, Shirley and brother John.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Margaret, Elizabeth, and Bonnie,
Brothers Edward Jr. and James along with his grandson Anthony Matzinger.
Visitation will be held at Nativity Catholic Church 3255 N. Ronald Reagan Blvd., Longwood, Florida. Thursday, December 3rd from 6 to 8 pm, Prayer Vigil at 7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, December 4th at 11 am. Interment will be immediately following at Oaklawn Cemetery, Sanford, Florida. Arrangements by Baldwin Fairchild Oaklawn Memorial Park Lake Mary, Florida. In keeping with all current COVID-19 pandemic protocols, social distancing and mask wearing required.
