

Akhtar Aghamahmoud was born on October 12, 1936, in Tehran, daughter of Fakhri and Hussein Aghamahmoud. From an early age, she excelled as a student and at a time when few women pursued higher education, she courageously traveled to Turkey to study medicine and specialize in obstetrics and gynecology. Her journey was not easy, but through perseverance she overcame many obstacles and forged her path, becoming an example of dedication, intellect, and resilience for generations of women. She worked tirelessly to build a busy and thriving medical practice in her community in Iran. She devoted more than 40 years to caring for women and families, bringing countless lives safely into the world and performing life-saving surgeries. Beyond her remarkable career, she was a tenacious, generous and charitable person, deeply devoted to her Bahá’í Faith and committed to helping others. She cared deeply for her family and was always there to support and take care of them with unwavering love and devotion. Known for her honesty and vibrant sense of humor, she also had a love of music, language and the arts. Dr. Aghamahmoud will be greatly missed and forever remembered for her generosity, dedication to her faith and enduring love. She is survived by her two brothers and many loving nieces and nephews.
