Obituary of Alice Fay Stephens
Alice passed away peacefully on October 5th at her home with her family by her side. She had suffered a fall on July 1st and never recovered from her injuries after complications developed. After two months in a skilled nursing facility, she returned home. She was placed on Hospice five days prior to her passing. She was comforted by her husband, sons, daughter, their spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren during her final days. Alice was born May 8, 1928 in Welch, West Virginia, to James Clyde and Maggie Mae Dodson. In 1937 her family moved to Garden Grove. After a whirlwind courtship and marriage to James Albert Stephens on March 9, 1947, they moved to the Tustin/Santa Ana area. She lived the remainder of her 94 years as an Orange County resident. Alice loved serving in philanthropic and community organizations. She was a Life member of the Assistance League of Santa Ana, a Charter Member of Chapter RA PEO, a member of Chapman University Town and Gown, served on the board of UCI Humanities Support group, a member of the Center Stars and the Crescendo Guild of the Arts. She and Jim were members of Trinity United Presbyterian Church for over 60 years. Her greatest accomplishments were being a devoted wife to Jim and a loving and dedicated mother to her three children. Her greatest joy was having a home that served as a hub for her grandchildren and great grandchildren during holidays and family get togethers. Alice is survived by her husband of 75 years, James A. Stephens; sons and spouses, James L. and Frances A. Stephens, Jonathan A. and Diane S. Stephens; and daughter and spouse, Kathleen Marie and Marc A. Landry. She was blessed with eight grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to Chapter RA, PEO. A memorial service will be held at Fairhaven Memorial Park Mortuary in the Waverly Chapel at 12 noon on October 31st. Following the memorial service, there will be a graveside internment. A reception with family and friends will be held at Trinity United Presbyterian Church of Santa Ana in the Fellowship Hall at 1:30PM.
