June 26, 1939 – January 7, 2025
Your Hug Meant the World
Nobody else held me so tight
Or made me feel so right
No one’s eyes shined so bright with love
As my mom, who is now high above.
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Dollie Lucinda Van Dixhorn, who passed away peacefully at home on January 7, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on June 26, 1939, in Wichita, Kansas, Dollie was a woman of great warmth, strength, and love. Her life was filled with deep devotion to her faith in God and family, a passion for world travel, and a love for learning, reading, and adventure.
Dollie worked as a teacher’s aide in Villa Park from 2012 to the fall of 2024, where she made lasting connections with students and colleagues alike. Her commitment to education and her caring nature enriched the lives of many. Outside of her work, Dollie was an avid reader and an enthusiastic traveler who enjoyed exploring the world and embracing new experiences, one of which was sailing to Croatia in 2023. She cherished her family above all else and took great pride in being an active part of the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Lois and Kenneth Holt and her son in law Steven Costa. Dollie is survived by her five children: Rebecca Costa, Debra Hart Van Dixhorn (spouse Joseph Hart), John Van Dixhorn (spouse Kimberly Van Dixhorn), Elizabeth Van Dixhorn, and James Van Dixhorn, as well as her nine grandchildren: Nicholas Costa, Heather Costa Albright, Steven Mohler, Brett Mohler, Naomi Van Dixhorn, John Van Dixhorn, Alexandra Van Dixhorn, Samuel Van Dixhorn, and Isabella Van Dixhorn.
