On Wednesday, September 7, 2022, Edward Barrios, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 82 at his home in Tustin, California. Edward (Ed, Eddie) Barrios passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his family.
Ed was born on April 28, 1940, in Los Angeles. He is one of four children born to his parents Carmen and Antonio Barrios. He grew up in East LA, specifically Boyle Heights. When he was 18, he joined the US Army and served from 1958 to 1961. Joining the army provided him the opportunity to travel throughout Europe and experience the world he had read about in books.
In the late 60’s Ed had met his future wife Cecile. They married on June 22, 1968 and were married for over 54 years. Ed graduated from Cal State LA with a degree in History. He worked for LA County for over 35 years, retiring in 1999 as Assistant Director in the Human Resources department. He was a hard worker, a value he instilled in his children.
Ed had an incredible work ethic and was a man of integrity. He was always there to defend those who may have encountered disadvantages. He was passionate about politics and giving back to his community, and always voted for progressive causes and candidates that would help people. He appreciated oldies music from the 50’s and ‘60s, as well as opera and musicals. He loved good food and enjoyed cooking a few favorite recipes. He was a talented chess player, competing in tournaments when he was younger and continued playing online in his retirement. As a father, Ed was generous, selfless, stern when needed, but playful, and always stressed the importance of a good education.
Ed is survived by his wife Cecile, his children Alisa, Laura, and Joey, his son-in-law Chris, his daughters-in-law Brianne and Cynthia, his five grandchildren Ryan, Julia, Bailey, Ashlynn, and Hannah, and his siblings Dave, Bobby, and Helen. He is predeceased in death by his parents Carmen and Antonio, and his son Eddie.
He was loved by many and was devoted to his family. He will be put to rest next to his late son Edward Vincent Barrios, whom he loved with all of his heart and, in many ways, was his best friend.
A memorial service for Edward will be held Sunday, September 25, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Fairhaven Memorial Park Mortuary, 1702 Fairhaven Avenue, Santa Ana, CA 92705. Following the memorial service will be a graveside service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Fairhaven Memorial Park, 1702 Fairhaven Avenue, Santa Ana, CA 92705.
