Jo Ann Mistich lived her final moments surrounded by family in her Alta Loma, California home. Our beloved Nana, Mother, Sister, and Friend was welcomed into heaven the evening of October 8th, 2021. Born in Buras, Louisiana, Jo Ann lived to the age of 66. Her legacy will carry on within the loving memories she created with us all.
Jo Ann is survived by two of her three children, Chad Terry, and Michele “Shelly” Smith; seven grandchildren, Cole Seanoa, Kyla Terry, Troy Seanoa, Gavin Terry, Alia Seanoa, Wayne Smith, and Roxann Smith; two sons-in-law, Brett Seanoa, and Timothy Smith; and daughter-in-law, Alison Terry. She is also survived by her brother, Roger Minnicks; brother-in-law, Randall Wright; sisters-in-law, Dorene Wright and Shellie Minnicks; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Cassandra Seanoa; three brothers, Charles Mistich, Elliott Mistich, and Stephen Mistich; mother, Hettie Minnicks; stepdad, Robert Minnicks; and father, Louis Mistich.
She enjoyed a successful career in the financial industry, retiring as the Assistant Vice President of Special Projects for Caltech Employees Federal Credit Union.
Jo’s major passions in life were her children & grandchildren…and the Denver Broncos. Any free moment was proudly spent attending youth sporting events. And if it was a Sunday, you’d find her in the living room yelling at the TV.
Albeit Jo Ann’s own personal battle with pancreatic cancer was brief, she endured a lifelong struggle with cancer as a mother, sister, daughter, granddaughter, and niece. Most notably and tragically, Jo lost her 42-year-old daughter Cassandra in 2017, and her brother Stephen at the young age of 36 in 1989. In addition, nearly all her paternal relatives succumbed to cancer, each a different type. Cancer also affected the life of her son, Chad, who is a 35-year survivor.
Considering the impact of cancer on her life, and her final wish to protect the futures of her descendants, the family has organized a charity fundraiser. The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network was instrumental in providing complimentary resources and tools for Jo Ann during her battle and helped to ease the overwhelming stress of her diagnosis, as the organization does for so many patients and caregivers nationwide.
