Robert J. Benitez

Benitez, Robert Jesus (Jesse)- Was born in French Camp, California (near Stockton) on March 11, 1921. He grew up on 2nd street in Santa Ana with his siblings: Richard, Rossaura, Ramiro, Rachel and Raul. During the depression he joined the Navy Merchant Marines; he sent all his earnings back home to his mother, Dolores Soto Benitez. He was a Gunner's Mate in WWII. He married his beautiful lifetime spouse of 65 years, Carol Nevarez Benitez - (also from Santa Ana), who passed away on 9/23/02. Together they had 3 children: Roberta Benitez, Beckie Benitez, and Aaron Benitez. For decades he and his bothers ran his Benitez Barber shop on Fouth St., which was once visited by President George W. Bush during the 2000 election cycle. An avid church goer he never wanted to miss a Sunday at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa. His nephew Pastor Danny DeLeon from Templo Calvario church in Santa Ana was a very important figure in his life as well. He is survived by his 2 daughters; 3 grandchildren Abel Castillo Jr., Adam Benitez, and Lelah Mendez; and 7 great-grandchildren Andrew Castillo, Joseph Castillo, Hailey..Jacob..Riley..and Justin Benitez and Kayla Mendez. Funeral Service will be held at Fairhaven Mortuary and Cemetery in the Waverley Chapel, with burial following at the same location, on February 02, 2018 at 1pm.
