Somen Thomas, 63, passed away on September 26, 2020 following a 1.5-year battle with cancer. He was born to parents K.V. & Marykutty Thomas on 11/11/1956 in Kerala, India. Being the eldest of 3 children he looked after his younger siblings. Somen excelled in school and received his bachelor’s in commerce from Basaleos College in Kottayam, India. His professional career began in Bombay, India in 1978 as an accountant. In 1982 he left India and secured a job with a British company in Doha, Qatar. A few years later in 1984 Somen arrived in the United States under a visitor’s visa to be with his soon to be bride. He was married to Jain Mathew on 6/16/1984. The next year saw the birth of their firstborn daughter, followed by the couple’s son in 1990. He was dedicated not only to his family but his work life as a Mortgage Finance Analyst for companies including: Hammond Company, Washington Mutual, and Carrington Mortgage. A part of various assemblies during his lifetime, Somen held positions of Deacon and Treasurer during his tenure with Grace Bible Chapel in Fullerton, CA. He also supported many ministries through “Gospel Missions of India”. He was a gifted preacher and extensive teacher of God’s word. He was creative, always thoughtfully planned ahead, and demonstrated loyalty in his friendships. He was content being behind the scenes, never needing the spotlight or recognition for his hard work. Somen’s life is a testament to God’s faithfulness. Even in his darkest days God’s light still shined through him. Somen left this earthly plane surrounded by family, as the song blessed assurance played. He took his final breath at the conclusion of the song. He is now at the feet of his Savior living in eternity. He is survived by his parents K.V. and Marykutty, sister Jolly, brother Saji, wife Jain, daughter Nina, son Michael, son-in-law Renji, and grandson Ezra.
