Lourie Ann Campos Coallier was born May 6, 1966 at Fort Ord in Monterey, California, the first child of Angelita and her late father Rudolfo (Rudy) Campos. The family eventually settled in San Jose, California in 1976. where Lourie graduated from Independence High School in 1984. She went on to attend the University of the Pacific that fall, transferring to Santa Clara University in 1985. In December 1987 Lourie enrolled in the Washington Semester Program at American University. She returned to Santa Clara University, earning a bachelor’s degree in political Science in June 1988 and finished out her education with a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Arizona in August 1996.
The core foundation of Lourie’s work was helping others. She started at the Community Health Partnership in 1996, and after her first cancer and recovery in 1997/1998, shifted to government policy in order to help guide and shop legislation to advocate for better health care for everyone across the Bay Area. She volunteered as a co-facilitator with Healthy Young Attitude, an organization dedicated to helping younger cancer patients deal with their illness, treatment, and recovery. In 2008 Lourie moved to a role as Director of Government Relations at Stanford Hospital where she worked with local, federal, and state legislators and helped guide Stanford Hospital and government at all levels to provide patients with the best possible care. She worked with the National Institutes for Health/National Cancer Institute and with the American Society of Clinical Oncologists as a patient advocacy expert.
Lourie loved animals, particularly dogs and pandas, and she donated often to charities in support of animals. She loved her family, travel, food, music, and movies, and in her later years she took to art to help relieve stress, discovering and developing a talent for drawing, painting, and pastel work. She passed away on December 7, 2022 and is survived by her husband Steven (married in 2012), her mother Angelita, her brother Michael and his wife Ana, her niece Malia, her nephew Jordan, and her extended Campos and Coallier families.
