Passed away peacefully on November 3, 2013. Born June 15, 1917, in Fall River, Massachusetts. She was raised in Sao Miguel, Azores and was married and had her first two children there. Lourdes returned to America in 1945 and petitioned to bring her entire family to the US. She spent 14 years running a dairy business with her husband. She was a homemaker and a mother until her children were grown, then began a second career with the elderly at a convalescent hospital. Lourdes was a devout Catholic and involved in various religious societies and bible study groups at St. Clare Parish.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Amarelo. She is survived by her four children (and their spouses): Lionel (Virginia), Lynn (Stan), David Jr. (Roni), Gerri (Carlos), and six grandchildren: Robert, Richard (Nadine), Francine (Craig), Aaron, Christie (Ken), Lindsey (Adam). She is also survived by five great grandchildren: Sofia, Satyel, Clara, Garrett, and Nora. She also leaves a brother, David Sousa, who resides in Santa Clara.
Memorial rosary and mass will be held Friday evening November 8 at 7:00pm at St. Clare church in Santa Clara. Burial will be Saturday, November 9 at 11:30 am at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery.
