Mary J. Bettencourt

Mary, 69, received her wings on Nov. 7, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. She was born to John and Mary Soares in Palo Alto, CA, on July 13, 1943. Sister of Rosie Bettencourt (Tony) and Frank Soares (Robin). Mary was married to her true love Art Bettencourt for forty years until his passing in 2003. Together they raised three daughters, Barbara Teixeira (Tommy), Bernie Defrenchi (Ernie), and Julie Driscoll (Tim). Grandmother of Justin and Haley Driscoll, Janelle and Samantha Teixeira, and Ian and Sophie Defrenchi. Sister in law of Albert, George, Luis, and Fil Bettencourt, Ines and Vicky Lopes, Aldina Luis, and Mary Almeida, and Aunt to many nieces and nephews. Caretaker and best friend to her pug Roxy. Her devotion to family, her children, and her grandchildren is her greatest legacy. Proceeded in death by brothers John Soares (Dede), Joseph Soares (Judy), and brothers-in-law Joseph and Miguel Bettencourt.Known for her love for everyone who crossed her path. She dedicated her life to taking care of family and friends, as well as babysitting for many nieces and nephews, as well as her own grandkids. Mary was known as Auntie Mary, Auntie Grandma, Grandma, and Tia. She is greatly loved and will be dearly missed. Visitation Tues Nov 13, 2012 from 2-4pm at Lima Family Santa Clara Mortuary, 466 N. Winchester Blvd, followed by a Rosary/Mass at 7pm at St. Clare Church. Interment Service Wed Nov 14, 2012 at 11am at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made in her name to the American Cancer Society .
