Ming-ta Sung Hsu was born on August 3, 1937 in Nanching, China. She graduated from the National Taiwan University in Taipei. She later moved to the United States, where she earned her Masters Degree in Science at the New Mexico Highlands University. She later earned her Doctorate at Iowa State University before moving to California to became a lecturer at San Jose State University. She spent most of her career as a chemist developing materials at NASA Ames Research where she retired in 2005. Mingta was married to Thomas Hsu until his death in 1996, and they have one son together. Mingta will be remembered as a generous, loving, and brilliant woman who gave selflessly to others. She spent her retirement mostly volunteering in her church and community. She loved gardening, cooking, traveling, spending time with her family, and working with various charities. She is survived by her son, daughter-in-law, and grand-daughter (Baldwin, Lucy, and Siena).
