Our hearts are deeply saddened by the loss of our beloved son, Nicholas M. Olson, 21, who sustained fatal injuries in a motor vehicle accident in San Mateo County . He is survived by his parents, Mark and Sandra Olson, his brother Sean, Grandmothers Lorraine Olson and Eileen Birdsall, and many uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Nick graduated from Leigh High School , 2008, where he was a member of the cross-country team, swim team, and volley ball team. He enjoyed playing Ultimate Frisbee with his friends in his College Group at South Hills Community Church , San Jose . An enthusiastic artist, he marveled his family and friends with his original designs in ceramics, stained glass, metal and wood sculpture. He loved the ocean, mountain biking, skiing, cars and anything which pumped his adrenaline. Most of all, he loved his family, his many friends and his boxer dog, Rama.

In June, 2010 he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, and graduated September 3, 2010 from M.C.R.D. He was recognized in the Chevron with the highest PFT (physical fitness test) from over 500 recruits in Kilo Company. Following Infantry School he began training to become a Reconnaissance Marine. On April 1, 2011, he graduated from the Basic Reconnaissance Course at Camp Pendleton , California , and became a Recon Marine.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 20, at 11:00am at South Hills Community Church, 6601 Camden Avenue , San Jose. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 22555 Cristo Rey Drive , Los Altos . Reception to follow.
