After a long and fulfilling life, Nick Gus Perakis departed this world on October 6, 2015, surrounded by his family. Nick was born on March 2, 1936, in Fournes, Hania, Crete, Greece. Nick came to America in December 1955 at the age of 18 years old seeking a better life. Five years later, he went back to his village to meet the young lady, Vasilia "Bessie" Hazirakis, who his mother believed would make a wonderful wife. After traveling to Fournes, they met two weeks later and married on August 27, 1961. As a successful businessman, Nick owned The Golden Horn Restaurant and Lounge in Cupertino for 28 years. He was known for his big heart, and willingness to help anyone in need. Nick loved telling stories of his past, expressing his wisdom, and sharing an occasional funny story. Nick is survived by his wife, Vasilia; son Constantine (Brigid) and daughter Eleni (Achilleas) Veziris; and six grandchildren: Nicholas and Katerina Perakis; Vasilia, Christina, Stephania and Stefanos Veziris. He is also survived by many brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law in Greece and in America, including Haroula "Harriet" Morris, Tassos (Maria) Perakis, Meropi (Hristo) Spilios, and Amalia (Mansoor) Keyashian; and, numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces. The Trisaigion will be held Sunday, October 11, 2015, 7:00pm, at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in San Jose, CA. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 12, 2015, 11:00am, at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church with interment following at Oak Hill Cemetery.
