Peggy Ann Cargill of Manteca, California passed away on January 20, 2025, at the age of 76 from renal and respiratory failure. Peggy was born in Hastings, Minnesota on October 24, 1948, and later moved to Fremont, California in her teenage years. As a child in Minnesota, Peggy lived with her parents (Verner and Linnea (Melby) Lundin) and four sisters, but after contracting the Polio virus as a young child, Peggy was sent to live in a children’s hospital for treatment. In addition, Peggy developed a rare motor and sensory neuropathy known as Roussy-Levey Syndrome that atrophied the muscles throughout her body. Despite these challenges, Peggy always had a quick wit and a smile for others. As a teenager in Fremont, Peggy completed her High School education, and some College coursework, with an interest in pharmacology. Despite her love for pharmaceuticals, Peggy went on to work as a Teacher’s Aid in Special Education. Perhaps due to her own disabilities, Peggy was an advocate for disadvantaged kids and spent her years in Special Education predominantly teaching children to read.
In 1969 Peggy married Robert E. Cargill and they enjoyed 39 years together before Robert suffered heart failure in 2008 leaving Peggy widowed. Peggy loved to talk to people, she had a wry sense of humor and often joked making friends wherever she went. Peggy loved to spend hours coloring elaborate pictures and playing make believe with her grandchildren, games with the family, and collecting fairies and tomtes for her home. Peggy leaves behind a son (Joel Cargill), and two daughters (Sarah Talerico and Delpha Cargill), seven grandchildren: Garrett, Isabel, Alyssa, Emalee, Jordan, Josh and Chloe, and her four sisters: Karen, Sue, Patti and Mary.
The family requests donations be made to a neuropathy foundation in lieu of flowers such as The Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy: https://www.foundationforpn.org/. With the passing of Peggy, we believe heaven gains another angel, but how lucky we are to have known someone who was so hard to say goodbye to. But as someone once said, “Goodbyes are not forever. Goodbyes are not the end. They simply mean I'll miss you until we meet again.”
A visitation for Peggy will be held Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at 12:30 PM at Lima Family Santa Clara Mortuary, 466 North Winchester Blvd, Santa Clara, CA 95050. Following the visitation will be a graveside service at 2:00 PM at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery, 490 Lincoln St, Santa Clara, CA 95050.
