JULY 6, 1932 – JANUARY 16, 2025
Ray was a great dad and an even better Pop to his seven grandchildren: Kirsten Garcia, Joey Bennett, Justin Flora, Brandon Flora, Summer Santiago, Shelby Santiago, and Vinnie Santiago. He also had nine great-grandchildren. Six of his grandchildren have some form of Ray as their middle name, a testament to what a great Pop he was. Ray was a 71-year member of Union 12 as a floor layer. His happiest years were as a union business representative and union president. He loved those years, during which he made some of his best friends and memories.
Outside of his career, he never missed his grandchildren's events. His favorite was baseball, where he served as a board member, coach, scorekeeper, dad, and Pop at Westside Little League. Westside was a fundamental part of his life for 55 years, and he still has great-grandchildren playing there. Hopefully, our community will continue that Little League tradition for another 55 years.
Ray lived a blessed 92 years, 70 of which were spent in Mariposa Gardens, where he was an original homeowner. He and Rosemary were surrounded by so many great neighbors. Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary, who was the best mom.
Ray is survived by his children: Debbie Metcalf (Mike), Melony Murphy (Donn), Karen Flora (Geno), and Mike Santiago (Kathy). He is also survived by his companion, Rose, and caregiver, Bella.
Ray will be dearly missed.
Services will be held on Friday, February 7, at 10:00 a.m. at Lima Family on Winchester Blvd. Lunch to follow at 1:00 p.m. at Three Flames on Meridian Ave., S.J.
