Ruby Welch, long time resident of Saratoga, CA, preceded in death by her husband Peter, was surrounded by her family as she left to join him in heaven. Ruby was born in Cherokee, Kansas, on August 14, 1929 to Antimo and Maria Mendicki, Italian immigrants. Her parents, and two older sisters, Edith Clay, Madeline D’Innocenti (deceased), made their way to California, settling in San Jose. Ruby graduated from San Jose HS '47 and worked as a bookkeeper until meeting serviceman Peter Welch at a Santa Cruz Coconut Grove dance. They married, raised a family sharing 50+ years together in their Saratoga home.
Ruby is survived by her five children and their spouses Steven(Ruth), Kevin(Joanne), Sandra Hart (David), Jan Popolizio(Stephen), Valerie Simmons(Ricky),13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, sister Edith Clay, and loving nieces and nephews.
Ruby's life was full as a housewife and mother, and annual vacations to Lake Tahoe with all her family. If she wasn't at the beach, check out the roulette table or wheel of fortune slots. She brought laughs to all those who joined her during these excursions. Ruby was active in her children's schools, sports, and served as President of the Mother's Guild at Archbishop Mitty HS. She loved watching SF Giant games, cheering on the 49ers and winning the Superbowl pool or Bingo pots!
What Ruby loved most of all was holidays shared together in her Saratoga home.
Each holiday would be filled with the smell of her cooking, grandchildren running around
and a champagne toast to “family”. The grandchildren will miss her words of wisdom, sharing trips to Graton casino and Heritage Cove beach days.
Her legacy is "Faith in God" and undying love for her family that was shown to us through the end.
Mass of Catholic burial August 22, 11am, Ascension Church, Saratoga. Donations in Ruby’s memory may be made to AMHS athletics, Sunnyvale Community Services, or Hospice of the Valley.
