Papa passed away peacefully at his home at the age of 95 with his loving son and daughter-in-law by his side. He was born in Metcalf, AZ to the late Pablo and Concepcion Delgado, the fourth of nine children. Papa grew up in Santa Paula, CA and moved to San Jose where he resided for 65 years. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nettie, and a second wife, Louise, sons Rudy and Steve, five brothers and two sisters. He is survived by sons Robert Delgado and Armando Garcia, brother Phil Villa and daughters-in-law Norma, Barbara and Gloria; 10 grandchildren and spouses, 16 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Papa took pride in always working to support his family. He often reminisced about working in Hollywood restaurants as a young man and encountering numerous actors dining. Papa eventually migrated to San Jose where he retired at the age of 65 from his job as a cannery warehouseman at US Products. He was an avid golfer, and in 1968 he was named the MAGA Santa Clara County Mexican-American Handicap Champion. Papa successfully managed a community garden at Emma Prusch Park for several years. He was also an excellent gardener at home and grew the most beautiful tomatoes and peppers which he roasted, bagged and froze for his famously spicy salsas throughout the year. He loved to cook and made the best menudo and chili beans. Papa was a faithful 49rs fan and loved to spend time with his family, barbequing in his backyard. He was loved by all who knew him and will be missed.
We especially would like to thank Papa’s caregiver, Jackie, for all her loving care to him and great help to us. We also thank Hospice of the Valley for all their help and wonderful care.
Services on Sunday 9/9/12 at 6 PM, visitation beginning at 12-9 PM. Funeral, Monday 9/10/12 at 10 AM. Both days at Lima Family Santa Clara, 466 N. Winchester Blvd.
