

Sal was born in San Mateo, CA. Shortly after his birth his family moved to Sunnyvale where he was a longtime resident. He passed away peacefully at the age of 89. He was the son of Sebastian and Josefa Walias, originally from Spain. Preceded in death by his loving wife, Frances Bernal Walias, of 59 years. He is survived by his children Dennis (late Cecelia) Walias, Patricia (Art) Boone, both of Sunnyvale, Michael (Julie) Walias of Elk Grove, and Robert (Tim Vollmer) Walias of San Jose; 7 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Also survived by sisters Anita (Des) Whelan and Carolyn (Lary) Stevens, both of Arizona. Sal attended Fremont High School of Sunnyvale and was a World War II veteran serving in Europe. A longtime employee of Westinghouse and Hewlett Packard retiring in 1986. Although Sal and Frances traveled the world, visiting places like the Great Wall of China to the Greek Isles, his passion was camping, hooking up his trailor and visiting area campgrounds with family and friends. He was a member and past president of Sociedad Cervantes Espanol Lodge of Sunnyvale. Preceded in death by his brother John Walias and sisters Mary Caballo, Antoinette Bautista, Emilie Candelario, and Josie Crivello. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Sunnyside Gardens of Sunnyvale and Vitas Hospice Care for the dedicated and loving care they provided him. Family and friends are invited to the Funeral Service on Friday, September 6, 2013 at 11AM at Lima Family Santa Clara, 466 N. Winchester Blvd, Santa Clara. Interment will follow in Santa Clara Mission Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Alzheimers Association.
