The son of Graziano and Rosalia Bommarito,Tom was the fourth of five children,who was originally from Detroit, Michigan.The family moved to Santa Clara in 1946,and Tom was in the lead car as the navigator while his oldest brother, Phillip, drove.Like his other siblings,Tom met the love of his life, Norma, at the Quid Novi Catholic Singles Club.They married in 1953 and started their family in 1955.
Tom worked for Emco Distributors as a Sales Manager, a position he held until he retired in 1989.Tom was a man who was very involved in his Church and community.He was very active at St. Clare’s Parish in Santa Clara; a Dad’s Club member and President, a member of the Building Committee and Finance Committee, a member of the Italian Catholic Federation and was the voice of the annual Barbecue.He was a Lector and Eucharistic Minister as well as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion to the sick and home bound.He served as an Episcopal Master of Ceremonies to Bishop Pierre Du-Maine and Bishop P.J. McGrath.
As a member of the Knights of Malta,he journeyed with the sick on a pilgrimage to Lourdes,France,he served meals to the homeless at Martha’s Kitchen and he worked at Sacred Heart Community Services.He served in many offices of the Serra Club,including President and he received the Face of Serra Award.Both Tom and Norma were honored with the Pro Ecclesia et Pontiface Papal Award from Pope Benedict XVI,the award granted to individuals whose lives are an example of generous ministry and good works performed in service to the Church.
Tom passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving children.Tom will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.He was predeceased by his parents, Graziano and Rosalia, his wife of 66 years, Norma, brother Phillip and wife Lucille, brother Paul, and brother-in- law Salvatore Lipari.He is survived by his brother Joe(Ada), sister-in-law Johanna Bommarito, sister Mary Lipari and brother-in-law Eugene(Dolores)Ferrari.He is also survived by his children Virginia(Edward Lynn),
Michael,Frank(Christine) and Louise( John McKeon).
He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren; Karen and Jessica Lynn, Kyle, Kevin and Stephanie Bommarito,Megan(Bryan Dobyns),Brian(Stephanie)McKeon,Tom,Jack and Katie Rose McKeon and 3 great-grandchildren;Charlotte Dobyns, Cooper and Callie McKeon.
