William Michael Grunder

Staff Sergeant William Grunder, 76, passed away peacefully after a sudden and brief illness and was surrounded by family at his home on February 22nd, 2022. William was a decorated veteran who served in Vietnam during 1965 to 1969 and spent another few years in the reserves until 1971.

William was born on March 16, 1945 in Merced, CA to his parents William Sr. and Madeline. When he was just 20 years old, William decided he wanted to join the Marine Corps and was stationed at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, CA. William would go on to serve in the Vietnam War until he was honorably discharged in June, 1971.

After serving in the military, William started working at the local cannery as a machine mechanic. He worked at the cannery for 15 years before changing careers. At 40 years of age, William began working for PG&E and was a respectable and accomplished employee during his 25 year career before retiring at the age of 65.

When he wasn’t working, William had a passion for playing softball, watching sports, and being a history buff.

He is survived by his wife Roseann; two children- Renee (Russ) and Gary (Jordana); and seven grandchildren- Taylor (Vince),Anthony, Cortney, Nick, Matt, Austin, and Blake.

William was predeceased by his Mother Madeline, Father William Sr., Step-mother Millie, Sister Dolly, Uncle Amado, and Aunt Florence. He is survived by his wife Roseann, two children Renee and Gary, and his seven grandchildren Taylor, Anthony, Cortney, Nick, Matt, Austin, and Blake.

Instead of sending flowers, the family requests that donations on William’s behalf be sent to the Wounded Warriors.

A Funeral Service for William will be held Thursday, March 3, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Lima Family Santa Clara Mortuary, 466 North Winchester Blvd, Santa Clara, CA 95050. Following the funeral service will be a Committal Service from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Oak Hill Memorial Park & Mortuary, 300 Curtner Ave, San Jose, CA 95125.
