Dear Bartzokis family,

I was greatly saddened to hear of George's passing, and seeing his picture on this obituary page reminds me of his wit and intelligence and genuine curiosity and love for life. We were college classmates and I can remember well both the many nights we spent studying and the occasional summer evenings when I would visit him at his family's pizzeria in Newton. What I will remember most though is that he laughed easily and loved friendship.  He was far better at keeping in touch than I, and I will miss that unexpected call saying that he was in town and ready to see me. My sincere condolences to all who loved him.

I am so saddened to hear of George's passing.  George was one of my friends from our days at Harvard College; as upperclassmen, he and I lived in Lowell House.  George has always been a brilliant scholar and researcher, as well as a gentle man.  More recently, George has been a good friend of my husband and mine, and he and his family have been treasured guests at our family's holiday celebrations. My husband and I have been so impressed with George's important scientific research, and we have been pleased to help support George's work.  My deepest condolences to George's family, friends, and colleagues.

We remember George for his brilliant insights and love of his family.  He was a very special person, hard to find words here.

I was deeply stunned and saddened by the news of George's death. I have known George to be an exceptional, very highly respected colleague and dear friend at the UCLA Aftercare Clinical Research Program. Through the years, George convinced me in his inimitable way to participate as a control subject for his research projects. George had many remarkable qualities. He had infectious enthusiasm, curiosity, and a zest for life, all of which were reflected in his unyielding dedication to unlocking elusive medical mysteries in a search for the answers and cures to numerous serious illnesses. George was a man of outstanding character and integrity who treated everyone around him, colleagues and patients, with the utmost dignity and deference. Everyone he encountered felt respected by him. Clearly this is a profound loss for the Bartzokis family and friends to whom I offer my condolences. It also is a profound loss for the UCLA community and for humanity.

I am so sorry to hear about George.  What a vibrant personality, full of love and curiosity for his work.  He left way too soon.  I am so sorry.

Dear Kelly I just learned of your terrible loss this morning with a stray glance at obits in the LA Times.  Very sorry to have missed the memorial service, I didn't hear in time.  George was one of my best friends in medical school (I have a number of photos from that period) and I expected to see more of him in the future as we had more free time. George was the treating psychiatrist at the UCLA Aftercare Research Program many years ago.  I remember him as an astute and caring doctor.  When he returned from Arkansas he became one of our strongest research collaborators.  I was so impressed with his intelligence, vision, and ability to convey information in a concise, understandable, and even entertaining way.  As some commented today at the beautiful funeral service, he and his family came to American with very humble means, but with fortitude, skill, and intelligence were able to build meaningful lives for themselves.  George was a visionary who built a valued and cutting edge research program here at UCLA.  Further, George was also a very nice guy, who loved his family very deeply.  Thank you to Christina for your lovely, thoughtful eulogy today.  Also, thank you to Lori, Pablo, and Chuck, and the Very Rev. Bakas.

I'm saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Bartzokis.  I worked with him @ the WLA VA Hospital, and found him to be an enthusiastic, kind, and loving individual - a rare gem in the world of Psychiatry

I was saddened and shocked to hear of George's passing. His work was highly innovative, and his family's loss is also a loss to the field.  He was always enthusiastic about his science and the work of others. I will remember him as an especially generous colleague and collaborator, with a gentle manner even in our most heating scientific discussions. He cared deeply about his family and always had something new to tell me about their adventures. I will miss him.

George was a brilliant and valued colleague, always eager to discuss his innovative ideas. He was also extremely considerate of the thoughts and feelings of others, conveying a gentleness even in our most heated scientific discussions that I will miss.

We are sorry for your loss and for his family. Deepest condolences for his family during the time. George was a devoted father with a zesty wit. He is gone too soon.

Words cannot express my deep sadness for your loss of your devoted son, husband and father and my dear friend George. He meant so much to me in my career at the Aftercare Program. There are few individuals in our lives who we can call TRUE friends - George is indeed a TRUE friend of mine.  We were so fortunate to share many magical times together with our families - his love and compassion for Kelly and his girls is limitless. I think back to our times on the big Island of Hawaii, Disneyland and countless other adventures as Daddys, carrying tons of kids stuff - ending up laughing about it all later over a cold beer. Thank you for our very special times together, George.  I love you and will miss you.
