I succeeded Bob on the bankruptcy bench.  Learning from him was an entertainment and an adventure.

My sincere condolences to the family and friends.  Robert Ordin was a fabulous man to have such a loving, wonderful family.

I remember Robert with deep affection and respect. I was one of the fortunate UCLA professors with whom he "completed" his undergraduate education. He was 74 at the time he took two courses in Chaucer with me, recording every lecture and discussion, and to my utter surprise, transcribing them shortly after. He presented me with copies bound in two big notebooks at the end: an astonishing gift! Robert had a ferocious appetite for learning, and (befitting a judge) for rigor of judgment. I felt honored by his presence in my classroom, and enjoyed his company outside it. He lived a life that mattered. Ave atque vale, Robert! Hail and farewell.
Andrea and Allison, you are much in my thoughts. I regret an out-of-town engagement will prevent me from attending the formal celebration of his memory.

We have lost yet another member of the Greatest Generation.  Thank you for your service to our nation during World War II, Mr. Ordin.  Your courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Thoughts and good energy to you and yours Allison.  He sounds like a great man who left you with MANY warm, loving and fond memories. Take good care...and play lots of music.

A presence larger than life...... He had been described this way by many.  I have sailed many voyages with this man...his influence on my life is beyond measure..... He taught me early that to know the difference between what one wants to be reality,  and what is, can have a chasm between them ..... To seek out the truth and the reasons behind the discrepancies will set your path on its correct trajectory.....a lesson I will take into my heart forever.  
A complicated man.  Difficult to read at times..... His drive towards achieving his own peace of mind was fierce.... He took on many sea voyages to be within  a kind of nature where the unpredictability had to be mastered in order to survive.... No small task. But we did that..... We survived and because of these sea adventures, our lives took on a perspective not many share....dad gave us, his family these life lessons..... I can not speak for the others in my family, but for me, they were everything ......they taught me to not fear self evaluation..... They taught me so much about myself..... To care and love myself..... And the value in being a member of a working team......priceless.....
He was sweet..... Cute..... Funny.....fierce...... Unwavering....difficult......stubborn......kind......generous......vulnerable......and a wonderful man......to me, yes...... Larger than life...... Huge...... The biggest influence on my character development..... My dad. I love you..... Will miss you.... For the rest of my life I will turn to you, now spiritually, to help me find the pathway I need....... I love you daddy....

I had the good fortune to spend 10 years next to Bob's office as a young legal administrator.  The kindness, humor, and wisdom he shared with me were invaluable. What good man, so lucky are paths crossed.

Bob was a scholar, a student, a friend, and a mentor.  He emanated an enthusiasm for life and brought a very special kind of energy, a very human energy, a very powerful energy, into every one of his interactions.  Bob was a unique and special person and he will be sorely missed by all of us who knew him.  Our hearts are with you Andrea.   Bob and Tricia.
