Fermin Madrid Perez

Fermin was born on July 7, 1941, the 2nd to the youngest of 14 children to Jesus Montoya Perez and Julia Madrid Perez in the City of Santa Paula, California.

Fermin graduated from Santa Paula High and at the young age of 17 began his life long career as a distributor of Mexican Food Products with David Marquez owner of the Carreta Bakery. In 1960 he began his own business as “Fermin’s Tortillas a distributor of Mexican Food Products throughout Ventura County. During the 1980’s his C.B. handle was known as the Tortilla King.

In 1966 he married Socorro Garnica and together they had four children. He is survived by his children Gloria Rocio (Michael) Casas, Sandra (Kenny) Frutos, Silvia (Jim) Gray, Fermin Perez Jr. His grandchildren: Elisa Casas, Stephen Casas, Ashley Frutos, Kennedy Frutos, Carson Gray, Madison Gray, Nathan Perez and great granddaughter Victoria Casas. Siblings Susie Castro, Modesta Lopez, Marylou Magallanes and Paul (Amelia) Perez Sr and numerous nieces, nephews and great nephews.

Fermin loved his work, it was his passion. Rising early every morning to greet his customers with a smile and a 15 to 20 minute story with everyone. He always said, “Retirement was not for him and he would die working”. He was true to his word.

On behalf of Fermin’s family we would love to thank all of his customers who had been loyal and supportive throughout his 56 years of business. To La Reina and the Tolteca Companies and all their employees who interacted with our father on a daily basis. You were all his extended family.

Services: Viewing Friday August 19, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00, Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Skillin-Carroll Mortuary located at 738 E. Santa Paula Street, Santa Paula, California.

Mass Service Saturday August 20, 2016 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church at 11:00 a.m. located at 427 N. Oak Street, Santa Paula. Burial to follow at Santa Paula Cemetery located at 380 Cemetery Road, Santa Paula, California.
