

Charles A. Briggs IV, affectionately known as Chuck, passed away on July 5, 2016 in Sarasota, Florida at the age of 80. Born on July 9, 1935 in Sidney, Ohio, he spent his childhood years in Wisconsin, Kentucky, Illinois, and Colorado. Chuck received a scholarship from Seattle University and graduated in 1958 with a B.S. in Commercial Real Estate and Insurance. Years later, he was inducted into the intercollegiate Hall of Fame at Seattle University for his outstanding performance in golf which continued to be a passion throughout his life. He enlisted and served his country in the U.S. Army from 1958-1964. He held key executive positions at Aerojet, Grumman Corp., and TRW; pursued an advanced business degree from Harvard Business School, and retired after 35 years in sales and marketing. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles A. Briggs III and Frances G. Shoolroy; survived by brothers David M. Briggs (Carol), and Robert W. Briggs (Alyssa). He is also survived by his wife of 23 years, Charlene Briggs, and step-daughter, Amy Carlson (Thomas). He was previously married to Geraldine E. Myers in 1957 and was blessed with six children; Stephanie Amick (Michael), Kimberly Jansen (Martin), Charles A. Briggs V (Kimberly), Suzanne Briggs (David), Mary Briggs (Michael), and Julie Chavez (Antonio). He was a beloved Grandfather to eleven grandchildren and two step-grandchildren, and loved by family and friends who enjoyed spending time with him. Private services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to your preferred charity or to Tidewell Hospice House in Sarasota, FL.
