He attained a Business degree from University of Northern Iowa; served three years in the US Army from 1962 to 1965, and spent 30 years in Employee Relations Management. After retirement, he started a Habitat for Humanity Retail store and was Volunteer Operations Manager at Selby Botanical Gardens.
Charles loved boating and kayaking near the Gulf beaches, golf, racquetball, snow+ water skiing, and dancing. He also volunteered for five years at Sarasota County parks.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Donna Butterfield. He is survived by his wife, Joan; sons, Ben and Marc; sisters, Mary Becicka, Paula Morvan, Dorothy Gooslby, & Ellen Kobylewski; and grandchildren, Alec, Blake, Hunter, Riley, Grace, & Abby Butterfield.
A Gathering for Charles will be held Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home - Wiegand Chapel, 7454 S TAMIAMI TRL, SARASOTA, FL 34231. A celebration of life will occur Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at 11:00 AM, 7454 S TAMIAMI TRL, SARASOTA, FL 34231. A reception will occur Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at 11:30 AM, 7454 S TAMIAMI TRL, SARASOTA, FL 34231.
