Dottie Kattell passed away at Bay Village Retirement Center on February 24, 2017. Dottie is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hayes, Jr.; children, Amy, John and Steve Kattell; daughter-in-law Nita Kattell, and grandchildren, Greg, Josh, Tara and Connie Kattell. Born November 9, 1928 in Arlington, Mass., to Robert and Francis Hayes, Dottie grew up in Providence, RI and then attended Lasell College in Newton, Mass. She moved to a farm outside of Wooster, Ohio in 1959, where she raised her children. It was here, during the Vietnam War that she served as Chair of Services to Military Families of the local Chapter of the American Red Cross. After her youngest child left for college in 1975, she moved to Sarasota, Florida where she served as Chair of Volunteers at the Sarasota Chapter of the American Red Cross from 1975 to 1979. A devoted member of Pine Shores Presbyterian Church, she served on the Board of Directors of Bay Village Retirement Community for 8 years, two of those years as Chair. Dottie’s favorite place was the family cottage on Echo Lake in Maine where she visited most summers of her life. Many great memories were made there with children, grandchildren, family and friends.
