
Edwin J. Heap Jr. of Duxbury,, MA and Casey, Key FL Born in North Quincy, MA and married to Margaret Keith Heap for 65 years. Ed was the third generation owner of Hancock Paint Company. He developed and opened Hancock’s 12 retail stores Paint and Decorating Stores in New England. A graduate of Thayer Academy attended Tufts University, played Minor League Baseball for the Boston Braves and was Rookie of the year 1949. During Word War II he served on the destroyer the USS Bache, DD-470 which was hit by a Kamikaze plane during the Battle of Surigao Straights (41 shipmates were killed and 31 were wounded or missing). Ed served as President of Milton Kiwanis, Director of Ponkapoag Pony Club, Vice President of the Original Project Bug Light, Cornerstone Masonic Lodge. He was a member of Pilgrim Church, Duxbury Yacht Club and Mission Valley Country Club. He is survived by his wife Keitha, daughters Lorrie (Bill) McKenna of Duxbury and Stuart FL, Donald Heap (Evelyn) of Manteo, NC and Stuart, FL, and Sheree (Art) Sibley of Old Lyme CT, and grandchildren Landon McKenna, Amanda, Dustin, and Alexis Sibley. Private burial will be at Mayflower Cemetery, Duxbury, MA. In lieu of flowers send donations to your favorite charity.
