Maria Maddox Laessig

Maria (Mia) M. Laessig, née Maddox, passed away on July 29, 2025, at the age of 81. Born in Rome, Italy, she was raised in Vienna, Virginia, and graduated from James Madison High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Operations Management from George Mason University.

Mia dedicated her professional life to public service, rising through the ranks of the U.S. Department of Defense to become a Supervisory Management Analyst, where she was highly respected for her leadership and commitment.

She was deeply devoted to her husband, Dr. Robert E. Laessig (Bob), with whom she shared a lifelong love. Mia is lovingly remembered by her sons Bernard W. Healy and Brian P. Healy; stepsons Robert E. Laessig Jr. and James M. Laessig; and her grandchildren: Bernard William Healy-Garcia, Brian J. Healy-Garcia, Aaron Laessig, Lauren A. Talley, Devyn Lewis-Laessig, Daniel Bernard Healy del Angel, Estrella Crystal Healy Martinez, Cole Edgar Healy Martinez, Kristen Jennifer Healy Martinez, Melina Santiago Ruiz, Jimmy Norman Santiago Ruiz, and Kino Virgilio González Osorio.

She is also survived by her beloved niece Emily Maddox, siblings Samuel E. Maddox, Francesca Maggiorano, Bianca Palmigiani, Lucialba Zoffoli, and Gianandrea Maggiorano, along with their families in Rome, Italy, and other cherished relatives throughout Italy.

Mia found joy in spending time with her husband and family, reading, solving crossword puzzles, shopping, and affectionately using nicknames for her loved ones. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for her warmth, wit, and enduring love.
