Born October 9, 1931, in Oneonta, New York, Lyn lived a full and meaningful life. During her senior year of college, she married her high school and college sweetheart David Rodney Lent. After graduating college, she taught elementary school in both Connecticut and New York. In 1969 she moved to Sarasota County with her husband and two children; a move she always felt was providential. For 23 years, Lyn shared her love of learning as an elementary school teacher in Sarasota, Florida.
Lyn lived life with a spirit of curiosity and joy. She loved yoga, reading, music, and spending time with family. She was a true “Country Gal” by birth and in heart. Her devotion to God, her family and her ability to create and maintain a loving and welcoming home was exemplary. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life, and as a lifelong member of Pine Shores Presbyterian Church, she gave generously of her time—serving children in Joy Company for several years, visiting those in need, and comforting those in their final stages of life with letters, conversation, company and prayer. In life, Lyn loved and cared for many and she was loved and cared for by many.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary (Hand) Pattengill; her sister, Carol; and her husband of 60 years, David “DR” Lent. Lyn’s memory lives on in the hearts and minds of her children, Colonel (Ret.) David H. (Paula) Lent and Lisa Lent (Steve) Moseley; her grandchildren, Emily Lent (Joseph) Mendoza, Samuel (Tristen) Moseley, and Jacquelyn Moseley; as well as extended family and many dear friends.
A Celebration of Life gathering for family and friends will take place in the Meditation Chapel at Pine Shores Presbyterian Church on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 11:00 AM. A private interment for the family will follow in the Prayer Garden.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Noah Beck Memorial Fellowship or to the Pine Shores Church Endowment Fund for Ministry and Education, 6116 Crestwood Avenue, Sarasota, FL 34231.
