Peggy Jean Crane Urka, 86, of Venice, FL, formerly of Englewood, FL, born in Grand Rapids, MI, passed away on June 25, 2016. She was a fierce opponent in bridge, an amazing cook, and the best mother and wife to her family. She possessed a quick wit, ready laugh, strength, and beautiful artistic talents. Her undergraduate degree is from Michigan State University, and her graduate degree from the University of Michigan. In her career, she taught elementary school, culminating as the elementary principal of St. Francis Indian School, South Dakota. She was preceded in death by Martin Charles Urka, her spouse of 56 years. She is survived by children Meggen Jean, Wendy Sue, Preston Charles, Polly Augusta, grandchildren Sarah Jean, Nathan Reilly, Maggie Augusta, and sister Phyllis Hamer. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
