Agatha Barbara Bundon passed away peacefully on October 14, 2026, in Saskatoon, SK at the age of 95. Agatha (Shorty) was born in Luseland, SK on January 15, 1931, to Mary Weinmeyer and Michael Bundon and grew up in the Buckland and Prince Albert areas with her six siblings. Agatha trained to be a steno after high school which opened up the opportunity for her to work for the military in Whitehorse, Yukon from 1951 to 1955. This was followed by a brief period working back in Prince Albert before securing a job with the Canadian National Railways in Saskatoon. Agatha stayed with the CNR, working at various positions until her retirement in 1989.
It was at this workplace that Agatha met her lifelong friend Marion Henderson. These two ladies discovered that they had common interests in sports, world affairs and travel so they became best friends and roommates which lasted until June of 2022 when Marion’s health failed. Watching hockey, curling, baseball and golf on TV as well as holding season tickets to the Saskatchewan Roughrider games for several decades were favourite pastimes. As a young woman, Agatha was a great softball player and her achievements as shortstop for the 1950 P.A. Blue Jays earned her an induction into the P.A. Sports Hall of Fame in 2010. When living in Saskatoon, she enjoyed curling at the Granite Curling Club for several years accumulating many trophies.
In their retirement, Marion and Agatha wintered in Tampa, Florida for as long as they could. Agatha was the driver, Marion the navigator, who ensured that they timed the journey perfectly so as to fit in a trip to the beauty parlour the day before arriving at their destination. Watching baseball spring training camp in Florida was their favourite activity.
Always signing her gifts from “Shorty”, she was a favourite aunt to her many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews for her generosity and interest in their lives. She connected with each family member intentionally able to carry on a conversation on just about any topic. Even in her later years, Shorty maintained a sharp wit and loved to laugh, finding humour in many of life’s challenges which always made for an enjoyable visit.
Agatha believed in giving back, volunteering as a driver for cancer treatment patients for several years. She assisted in Mass services at St. Paul’s Cathedral and later at her home at Primrose Chateau. Being very modest, sensible and economical in nature, Agatha never found need to acquire extravagant belongings, she desired simplicity yet always presented a smart appearance.
Agatha is survived by her many nieces and nephews and their families. She is predeceased by
