Alexander was born September 9, 1947 in Trier, Germany, and passed away July 23, 2013 in Saskatoon, SK. Alexander will be greatly missed by his wife, Linda (Bunn) and his son, Andrej. He is also survived by his aunt, Marie Ortlieb in Koeln, Germany; uncle, Klaus Blasen in Prumzuerlay, Germany; and many surviving cousins and their progeny in Germany. He is predeceased by his mother, Katja (Blasen) and his father, Eduard Anton Dietz. Alexander came to Canada in 1954, when he was six. In 1968, he studied Ancient History in Italy and Germany. He married Linda in 1973. They studied in Heidelberg, Germany until 1977 and then Leiden, The Netherlands until 1982. Together they returned to Canada with their son Andrej. Alexander later began working for First Nations bands - some of which were Pelican Narrows, The Pas, Peguis, James Smith, Sturgeon Lake, and Cumberland House. His main interests were historical research, genealogies, and historical education of youth. A Memorial Gathering for Alexander will be held by the Sturgeon Lake Chief and Council on Saturday July 27, 2013 at the Sturgeon Lake Band Hall. The pipe ceremony will begin at 1:00 p.m. As well, a celebration of Alexander’s life will be held in Saskatoon on Saturday August 3, 2013 at McClure United Church,( 4025 Taylor Street East) in the dining room from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Alexander to the Friendship Inn (619 20th Street West, Saskatoon, SK, S7M 0X8); donations by credit card may be made by calling (306) 242-5122.
