It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Allister Welch on February 2, 2021. Allister was born on the family farm at Meacham, SK on September 26, 1930 to James and Elva (nee Hennessey) Welch; he was their youngest child, having three older sisters. He attended the nearby York country school and completed his Grade 12 in Imperial, SK. Allister then returned to the family farm, which he eventually took over. He married Stephanie Pawluk of Watrous, SK in 1954. In addition to farming, he was a Rural Municiple Councilor for the R.M. of Viscount, and served on the Lanigan Health Board. When he retired from farming, he worked for Municipal Hail Insurance. Allister was also very involved in his community, including the 4H club at Kildrum and the Meacham Curling Club. He was an active member of St. Edward’s Parish in Meacham, and a Knight of Columbus. He and Stephanie spent many years volunteering at the Craven Big Valley Jambouree as part of the Viscount Knights, frying burgers and proudly being part of the only volunteer group to serve breakfasts! They also become active members of the Saskatoon Old Timer’s Association, through which they volunteered their time making burgers at the Log Cabin during the Exhibition. They grew a big garden and spent time with family and friends, especially enjoying going out for coffee. Allister was fiercely independent, and, after Stephanie passed away in 2012, he continued to live alone until failing health compelled him to move into Sunnyside Care Home. He has resided there since February 2018, where he received loving care. Allister will be remembered for his community spirit, his work ethic, creative problem-solving skills, and mischievous sense of humour. He will be missed by his daughter Corinne (Mark) Baumann and his grandchildren Stephen, James and Erika, as well as his nieces and nephews and other family and friends. Allister, enjoy your time in heaven until we meet again. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 8, 2021 with live-streaming available at: www.faithproductions.ca/livestream . The Rite of Committal will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sunnyside Adventist Care Centre (2200 St Henry Ave, Saskatoon, SK S7M 0P5). Arrangements in care of David Schurr – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
