Born in Toronto, Ontario, Andre was a devoted family man whose life was defined by generosity, wisdom, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. He was a loving father to Evelyn (Corey), Jesse (Crystal), and Justin (Brandy); a cherished husband to Gail; and a proud grandfather to Hailey, Hayden, Alexandra (Johnathon), Brooklyn (Annette), Riley (Sadie), and Cayle. He was a beloved brother to Brucette (Doug) and Juanita (Buster), and brother in law to Betsy.
He is predeceased by his infant son, his parents George and Helena, and his brothers Doug, Ted, and Jim. Andre will be remembered by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless others who thought of him as a father figure.
Andre touched the lives of everyone he met. He was always ready to lend a helping hand—offering support, sharing food, or buying a coffee for someone in need. His wisdom was endless, and he loved sharing it. If he didn’t know the answer to a question, he made it his mission to find out.
Family was the center of Andre’s world. He treasured every moment spent together, especially when the whole family could gather in one place. He planned events, created memories, and made sure his children and grandchildren always felt supported and loved.
Andre spent his youth traveling with his parents and siblings and visiting extended family in Birch Island. The time he spent in Birch Island was something he talked about often and remembered with fondness. At 16 years old, he moved to Pilot Mound to live with his sister Brucette and brother-in-law Doug, teaching them early lessons about raising a teenager. He later began his own family there before moving to Regina in 1980, where started his trucking career at Kindersley Transport.
Athletic and energetic, Andre loved sports. Although he didn’t get to play as many organized sports as he wished growing up, he made sure his children had every opportunity. He never missed a game—cheering from the stands, offering advice, and becoming a well remembered ball coach. As a grandfather, he continued this tradition, traveling countless miles to support his grandchildren in their activities.
Racing held a special place in Andre’s heart. He began racing at Kings Park Speedway in Regina, driving his signature black and yellow #89 car—likely inspired by his beloved Boston Bruins. He passed this passion on to his sons and grandsons, forming the Tooley Racing Team. His pride in “his boys” could be felt across provinces. He was rarely the first to arrive at the track, but almost always the last to leave.
After an accident in 1992, Andre faced new challenges that led to a career change and moves to Kleefeld, MB where he was a power engineer at Western Glove Works and later Langham, SK, where he was trailer mechanic at Ridsdale Transport.
During retirement, he struggled with where to spend his time, wanting to be close to all his children. Ultimately, he made Rosetown, SK his home while spending summers in Manitoba, creating cherished memories with his family. He was finally free to travel, and enjoyed travelling across the country and taking whatever detour he wanted along the way.
Andre became a well loved resident at McNab Place in Rosetown where his kindness and humour made him a favourite among staff and residents.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at St. Paul’s Hospital, whose care, kindness, and support brought comfort during Andre’s final days.
Donations in Andre’s memory may be made to Liver Canada.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the Travelodge Convention Room Galaxy B. This will be a come and go gathering with no formal program, offering family and friends an opportunity to share memories and honour Andre in their own way.
He was deeply proud of his Indigenous heritage and carried that pride throughout his life. We will miss your storytelling.
