Antony Tony Glow

My name is Holly Glow and I am Tony's daughter-in-law. For the few people who have known Tony for the multitude of years that you could have, I thought that it would be interesting to give you a very brief outline of some moments in his life.

Anthony Glow was born in Winnipegosis, December 1st, 1911 to Mary and Michael Glowaski. The Polish family included 9 boys and 1 girl. They farmed a small piece of land, in comparison to farms nowadays, and they lived in a log house with a thatched roof. Tony was 9 years old when they built a new house. In Manitoba, the chances of expanding the farm was limited. Father, Michael, followed a lead which took him to Alberta in search of more land. His travels brought him to Saskatoon. He soon sent for his sons Peter and Joe to get to Saskatoon, which was booming. Eventually land was found 12 miles north of Saskatoon and the family was moved to Clark's Crossing in 1927.

Tony and his brother Paul were looking for adventure and when Tony was 26, he and his brother Paul hopped on their pedal bikes and headed off to Vancouver, BC. Only the last 12 miles into Vancouver were paved. The trip took a total of 19 days, but Tony would remain there for a year and a half. It was around this time that the family decided to change the family name to Glow.

Tony returned to Saskatoon to help care for the brothers while his mother recovered from a serious illness. Paul returned from BC and he and Tony farmed and gardened, taking their produce to the market. The family found a better location to farm south of Saskatoon and eventually the three brothers George, Tony and Paul formed a farming business of their own.

Tony met his wife Ruby Clancy at some of the dances and community events. Mr. Clancy, Ruby's father, was not approving of Tony. He insisted that she would have to wait until she was 21 to marry Tony. They were married in 1944. Together they purchased the original Caswell's homestead and continued farming until 1951 when they moved to Allen for about one and a half years to try Coop Farming.

In 1955, they adopted a baby boy and named him Raymond. Ray grew up learning to love gardening, farming, fixing cars and curling. Just some of Tony's skills.

In 1981, Tony and Ruby bought their motor home and became very active members of the "Rambling Rovers". Tony fully retired from farming when he was approximately 75. He would continue to keep busy with a huge garden, yard work and hobbies.

Tony and Ruby's family started to explode with the birth of their grandson Kelly and grand-daughters; Heidi, Shaylan and Brenna. In April of 2012, Tony is expecting his first great-grandchild. The whole family was devastated from Raymond's death in 2009 from a very aggressive cancer.

At age 96, Tony decided to move into Primrose Chateau where he has made another multitude of friends.

Some of these dates may be off by a bit. It's hard to imagine all the memories, highs and lows that must have occurred for a man who is 100 years old.

Antony Glow passed away with his family by his side on February 17, 2012 at the age of 100 years old. Healthy and active up until the time of his death, he had recently celebrated a memorable party for his 100th Birthday. He was born in Winnipegosis, Manitoba and his parents, Michael and Mary Glowacki moved to Saskatoon area where he and his brothers continued to farm. He and his wife Ruby Clancy were married for 56 years. They adopted their son, Raymond as a baby and were very involved and supportive during his life. Tony was a carpenter, inventor, mechanic, machinist and welder to name the least. He was well known to fix just about anything. He was an active member of the community and enjoyed curling, bowling, dancing and a lifetime member of the Rambling Rovers Club. He made numerous friends wherever he went. He was a very kind, mild mannered man who loved his family and was very proud of his farm and accomplishments. Tony enjoyed a very close bond to his niece, Lorna (John) Stonehouse, especially since moving to Primrose Chateau. Tony is survived by Grandson, Kelly Glow, Granddaughters: Heidi (Adam) Schille, Shaylan Glow and Brenna Glow. Daughter-in-law, Holly Glow. Brothers: Harry Glow, Michael (Olive) Glow. Additional Family: Janet Glow, Larry (Elsie) Glow, Melora (Jeff) Jones, numerous nieces and nephews. Tony was predeceased by his wife, Ruby Glow (Clancy) in 1999; His Son, Raymond Glow in 2009; Brothers: Peter, Joseph, George, Paul, Tom, Steven Glow and Sister, Amethy Glow .

Our thanks for the exceptional care to the doctors, nurses and staff at Royal University Hospital. The family also thanks friends and staff at Primrose Chateau. Funeral Services will be held on February 24, 2012 at 11:00 am at Acadia McKague’s Funeral Centre, 915 Acadia Dr. Saskatoon. Interment will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
