Armand Fendelet was born on Sept 24, 1945 to George and Dora Fendelet in Hafford Saskatchewan. He grew up on the family farm north of Hafford and the love for that farm stayed with him all his life. He went to school in Hafford and played on the football team earning him the nickname “Moose”. After graduation he moved to Saskatoon in search of employment and new opportunities. During this time a friend, Carol Agarand came into his life bringing him a family to love and take care of. They built their life together and had their own daughter Colleen on December 29, 1968. Armand became “Papa” after taking in Carol’s grandchildren Shanene, Reagan and Blaze. Through the years of raising them they became his closest family.
Armand started working on construction sites and some time at a flour mill before finding work at the university of Saskatchewan. Here he found his career path becoming an electrician and a job at the National Research Council at the University. He worked there until his retirement in 2008. Armand became a member of a closely knit group of co workers that were a second family to him. Years after retirement this group still gets together weekly for coffee or lunch and when Armand could no longer go to them, they came to him a few weeks ago to share some food and drinks and to tell a few more stories.
Armand never lost his love for the family farm. He would say “Well I’m going to the farm” and off he would go. Staying for the day or weekend or week depending on what was going on in the city. He actively farmed the land but older machinery and time brought him to the decision to sell some of the land and rent out the rest. But the family home remained in his heart and after retirement he found more time to be there, just relaxing and doing projects at his own pace. Hunting was a passion and fall would bring many hunting trips for deer or moose. The wood stove kept the house warm and cozy while the meat was cut up and wrapped. And then came the sausage making. The different recipes, different flavors, different types of smoke, Armand was willing to try anything. The drinks the stories the sampling of freshly smoked sausage, what can be better than that. If you were one of the lucky ones to have experienced one of those evenings you are truly blessed.
Throughout his life Armand has loved and taken care of his family. He never missed a family celebration and helped any family member however best he could. Sadly Carol passed away in 2009 leaving a hole in his heart. He had his family to comfort him but the loneliness was there. That loneliness was eased when Moyra entered his life. Together they started on a new journey with a new family that was still intertwined with his other family. They found time to relax enjoy some new activities but always attending family events wherever it took them. They enjoyed many quadding trips with family and friends and as always spent a lot of time at the farm.
Armand gained a true friend when cute little “Kita” came into his life. As a constant companion they were inseperable as each brought the other joy and laughter. “Kita, Open the door” and “Kita, Close the door” were some favorite games. However Armand’s health gradually went downhill. There were no more hunting trips and the visits to the farm became less and less. To make matters worse his faithful companion “Kita” passed away in December. The saying goes “The hardest thing about having a pet is the Good-bye”. That was very true for Armand as that hit him very hard. Then later In December 2024 Armand was diagnosed with lung cancer and it became clear there was no treatment available. After a stay at St Pauls hospital in January his daughter Colleen took him home for his final wish. He passed away on March 5, 2025 at home as he wanted. Thankyou to Colleen, Reagan and Moyra who made his final wish come true.
Armand was predeceased by parents George and Dora Fendelet, nephew Dean, Carol Agarand and step children Arlene and Ray.
