He worked many different jobs throughout his life, including as a ranch hand, at Krocus Co-Op, and in several restaurants. Cooking was something he truly enjoyed, and it became one of the ways people remembered his personality and warmth.
Breen had many friends in his younger years and often spoke, with his own sense of humour, about his four wives and common-law relationships. He would joke that he was going to outlive them all, and in the end, he may have done just that.
In his retirement years, Breen shared his home and daily life with his best friend, Kerry Smith. They were roommates for the last ten years, until Kerry’s passing in 2025.
That August was very hard for Breen. He missed Kerry deeply and found himself lonely without the friend who had been such an important part of his everyday life.
Breen had kept a careful schedule for Kerry’s dialysis appointments and medications, and after Kerry was gone, he no longer had those routines to fill his days.
Breen found comfort in simple routines. He loved cooking, especially very spicy dishes, and he enjoyed ordering wings from Pizza Hut. He would always wash them down with a Coca-Cola.
He liked watching TV from his favourite chair and preferred the comfort of being at home. He ordered his groceries online and enjoyed shopping for deals on Amazon.
Christmas was a time that brought Breen real excitement. Kerry and I always made a point of giving him something to open on Christmas Day, and we would share a dinner that Breen cooked with care.
I have known Breen for over 30 years. He was a caring and generous friend, and I will miss him very much.
