Mrs. Brigitte Nicole Luciuk

Brigitte Nicole Luciuk (née Gareau), 55, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2026, at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, following complications of adrenal cancer. Brigitte leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, compassion, hard work, and devotion to her family.

Brigitte was born on October 14, 1970, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, to Hubert and Lucille Gareau. She was raised on the family farm just north of Meath Park and was the youngest of nine children.

Growing up on the farm, Brigitte loved to read, draw, and ride her bike. She also enjoyed riding on the tractor with her father while her older siblings worked alongside them, clearing rocks and roots from the fields.

She attended school in Meath Park where she was an enthusiastic member of the travel club and enjoyed many close friendships. She graduated in 1988 and moved to Saskatoon to attend the University of Saskatchewan. There, she earned a Bachelor of Commerce from Edwards School of Business and served as treasurer of the Commerce Students’ Society.

During a summer internship with Deloitte in Prince Albert, Brigitte met her husband, Colin Luciuk. They married in 1994 at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Prince Albert and honeymooned in Alaska before making their home in the Calgary area. In 2006, they moved to Saskatoon. They shared 22 years together before Colin’s passing in 2016.

Together, they raised three children, Michael, Jenna, and Kristen, instilling in them the importance of family, hard work, and responsibility. Brigitte was immensely proud of her children, with whom she shared a particularly close and loving bond. Over the years, Brigitte’s home was also shared with several beloved cats.

Brigitte built a distinguished career in accounting and financial systems with TransAlta, joining the company in 1996 as an Accountant on the Finance and Treasury team before moving into Corporate Reporting and Financial Systems. After returning to Saskatchewan in 2006, she continued working with TransAlta as a contractor before rejoining the company as an employee in 2021 as a Senior Advisor in the Finance Systems Support Group. She will be remembered by her friends and colleagues at TransAlta for her reliability, patience, curiosity, attention to detail, and deep knowledge.

Beyond her career, Brigitte was an avid reader, particularly enjoying legal thrillers, including those by John Grisham. She also enjoyed attending plays, shows, and comedy performances with family and friends.

In 2007, Brigitte and her family built a cabin at Phillips Grove, across from Colin’s parents, Bea and Ron. The lake became an important part of Brigitte’s life, where she enjoyed outdoor activities, board games with her children, and time with family and friends. She was an active member of the Phillips Grove community, serving as treasurer of the Phillips Grove Council and regularly participating in community events such as the fishing, horseshoe, and Kaiser tournaments.

Brigitte loved to travel and enjoyed several family trips throughout the United States, Caribbean, and Europe. She and Colin also made many trips to Las Vegas with friends from Phillips Grove. In later years, she enjoyed visits with Michael and Eva in Toronto; road trips with Jenna; a trip to Scandinavia and the ABBA museum with Kristen; and weekend trips around Western Canada with her sisters.

Brigitte will be deeply missed by her family, friends, colleagues, and the many people whose lives she touched. Most of all, she will be remembered as a loving mother, daughter, sister, friend, and colleague whose presence brought warmth, stability, and care to the lives of those around her.

Brigitte is survived by her three children, Michael (Eva), Jenna, and Kristen; her eight siblings, Bernard (Sandra), Beatrice, Marielle (Ralph), Armand (Eveline), Louise (Ross), Eva (Ken), Noel (Jocelyne), and Emile (Arliss); her mother-in-law, Bea; her brother-in-law, Dean (Karen); her sister-in-law, Michelle; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Colin; her parents, Hubert and Lucille Gareau; her father-in-law, Ron; her brother-in-law, Denis; her nephew, Austin; and her niece, Melissa.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in Brigitte’s memory to support Endocrine Cancers research through the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. Donations to other cancer research organizations that are meaningful to you are also warmly appreciated.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Royal University Hospital for the care and compassion they provided to Brigitte and her family.
