Mom was born in Bridge of Allan, Scotland on January 9, 1928. Her family came to Canada in 1930. After receiving her teaching certificate in Saskatoon she spent 2 years teaching in a one-room school before marrying my dad, Lowry, on August 17, 1948.
Mom was predeceased by her parents Alfred and Burnetta Gray, her husband Lowry, with whom she shared 42 wonderful years of marriage, as well as sisters-in-law Betty Gray, Anne (Nat) Simpkins, and Mary (Gordon) Toombs. She is survived by her daughter Jean (Kevin) Kobialka, her brother George Gray, his children Dale (Debbie) Gray, and Brenda (Kim) Johnson, along with their families and other nieces and nephews with special mention to Susan Wagner and Marilyn Dann. Mom also leaves behind her dear friend Jan Wilson.
In her final months Mom was lovingly cared for by a number of wonderful caregivers, with special thanks extended to her ‘angel’ Crystal.
Mom enjoyed spending time in her flower and vegetable gardens, it was definitely her happy place. Mom was an active member of St. Martin’s Church UCW in addition to other volunteer work.
Known for her grace, warmth, and thoughtful spirit, Mom had a remarkable ability to make others feel welcomed and valued.
At Mom’s request, a private graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations made in Mom’s memory to St. Martin’s United Church or the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation would be graciously appreciated.
