It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Darren Schwartz on Sunday, January 21, 2018 in Moose Jaw, SK. Darren is survived by his parents, Elmer and Sharon Schwartz; sister, Patti Schwartz (husband, Gary Paulson); his partner, Peter Poorman; nephews, Dallas Schwartz (Partner, Bronwen Edelman); Kyle Schwartz (Partner, Cordell Strachan); aunt, Eileen Tate; aunt, Jackie Pawson (husband, Doug Pawson) and nephews, Chad and Brett Pawson. Darren was born in Ottawa and grew up in Saskatoon where he graduated from Evan Hardy in 1986. Darren was recognized as a trailblazer in Saskatoon's local music community. At the young age of 19, he pursued his dreams and opened his business, Darren’s Music Place. It became a haven for many music enthusiasts over its 21 years of business. Darren was a vital member in Saskatoon’s music community as a performer, mentor and educator. His role as President and Executive Director of the Saskatoon Music Festival was his pride and joy. He invested countless hours, every year, to ensure its growth and success. Darren was also dedicated to music ministry throughout Saskatoon, and was Chairperson of the Affirming Ministry at Grosvenor Park United Church. Apart from his passion for music, Darren was an advocate for animal rescue and cherished the bond he had with his animals. Darren was loved by his family and it is hard to say goodbye. As Irving Berlin said, “The song is ended, but the melody lingers on…” A Celebration of Darren’s Life will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at McClure United Church (4025 Taylor St. E.) in Saskatoon, SK. The presiding ministers will be Rev. Debra Berg and Rev. Laura Fouhse. The Interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Saskatoon Music Festival, as a memorial scholarship will be made in Darren’s name (Darren Schwartz Memorial Scholarship). Arrangements in care of David Schurr – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
