David was born on February 12, 1981, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to Jane and Ken Brown, the first grandchild in the Wallace and Brown families. He graduated high school from Aden Bowman Collegiate and went on to earn a sound engineering certificate from OIART music production college in London, Ontario. After moving back to Saskatoon, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Math and Physics and went on to complete a Bachelor of Computer Science at the University of Saskatchewan.
David’s career reflected the breadth of his interests. He began working for a sound engineering company, spent time in education, and eventually found his home at the University of Saskatchewan, where he worked in the ITS department as a computer programmer for over 20 years, supporting many of the University's systems.
Music was one of David's lifelong loves. In 2002, he and his friends, Luke and Jeff, from high school formed the band The Fjords, which released an EP in 2005 and a full-length record in 2010. Whether playing shows at Amigos, other venues or creating new music, music was always close to his heart.
David was an enthusiastic hockey player until injuries forced his retirement, but he continued to participate by coaching his son Elijah for many years. He loved fishing, travelling, reading, and comic books. Family trips were especially dear to him whether it was heading up north to fish, visiting Disney World, spending time at the cabin, or catching a baseball game in Boston. David was an avid planner, nicknamed "Disney Dave" because of the research and planning he put into trips, enabling everyone else to simply show up.
David cherished being a dad to Elijah and Sadie. He was deeply involved in their lives, always curious about their interests and eager to be part of whatever they loved. Some of his favourite memories were the individual trips he took with each of them: a Louis Tomlinson concert with Sadie at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado; and a boys' trip with Elijah to Phoenix, Arizona, for NBA and NHL games.
David is survived by his children, Elijah and Sadie; their mother, Twyla; his parents, Jane and Ken Brown; his brother, Matthew Brown; his sister, Meghan Gibson (Mark), and their children Markus and Mason (he adored his nephews); his uncles Bill Wallace (Joan); Mark Brown (Dawn); Gordon Brown (Shira); and Glen Brown (Cheryl) along with many cousins, extended family, Twyla’s family, the Breakfast Club, and friends who loved him dearly.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, Jean and Bill Wallace, and Len and Mary Brown.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday October 5th at 1 p.m. at The Glen at Crossmount (10 Glen Road, Crossmount). David loved his t-shirt collection, whether it was band t-shirts, Disney shirts, or quirky and geeky designs, you name it. Please come to his Celebration of Life wearing your favourite t-shirt to celebrate the fun-loving spirit he brought to everyone around him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice in David's memory.
David was a gentle and kind soul. He will be remembered for his warmth, his humor, his passion for music and the outdoors, and the deep love he had for his children, family, and friends. He will be deeply missed.
