Denise Y. Schmitz

Denise Schmitz went to her eternal rest on July 30, 2015 surrounded by her children Yvonne of Calgary, Gerald of Ottawa, and Roger of Saskatoon. She is also survived by her sister Geneviève (Laurent) of Saskatoon and sister-in-law Liliane of Montreal. Denise was born on March 19, 1913 in northwest Saskatchewan to parents Jean and Corentine Le Grand who had immigrated to Canada from Brittany, France several years earlier. Denise lived a remarkably full life of 102 years, much loved by her extended family and all who knew her. An avid reader, she was known for her inquisitive spirit, generosity and commitment to social justice. The Vigil for Denise will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 3rd and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4th. Both services will be held at St. Philip Neri Roman Catholic Church (1902 Munroe Ave South). Rite of Committal will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery next to her husband Bernard who predeceased her in 2002. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to The Prairie Messenger Sustaining Fund or the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace.
