My deepest sympathies to Jan, Nathan, Claire and family.   I am deeply saddened to hear of Neil's passing.  Neil exuded passion and energy for teaching, learning, his family and life! I was fortunate to have worked with Neil for many years at LPB as Care Partners and buddies and we did many projects together.  Neil was a brilliant educator as well as a great colleague.  I will always remember Neil with fondness and respect.  Neil ... you proved it was Hip to be Square!  Neil's memory will live on in the hearts of  his family, students and friends.  My deepest condolences ... Tatyana Onishenko

Our deepest condolences to the Sedgewick family from the Ma's.  I am proud to have known Neil. It is because of him that I got to meet the wonderful Jan, Nathan and Claire.  From the time, that I knew him, I went from little boy to a grown up.  I sang with his kids in Jr then joined Neil in the tenors once my voice changed.  We laughed at the basses.  Then my voice dropped.  Then he started laughing at me. All in good humor.  I probably deserved it. The way that his personality was infectious and his puffy chest singing got the boys joining in are just some qualities that I admired of Neil.  So many memories at Fireside, musicals, music festival and others.  He was not my personal teacher but I would like to think that he was an inspiration for me becoming a teacher.  Heaven has received a gift named Neil.  May the Lord bless you and sustain you during this most difficult of times.  Love always,Matthew

To Jan, Nathan and everyone who was touched by Neil let me express my deepest sympathy. Neil's enthusiasm for life and especially for community was more than apparent to me. Through Jack Rabbits Neil instructed all three of my daughters (Zia, Alice and Farren) in cross country skiing. His enthusiasm was legendary and because of him my daughters stayed in XC skiing well beyond the end of the Jack Rabbit program - Zia instructed the bunnies for a couple of years; Alice continued into the Youth Hiper Group and Farren still races. Neil's influence in my life didn't end with his instruction of my daughters. His extensive volunteering and community involvement has been an example to me of how a life can be lived that gives way more than it takes. I will miss him as I know many in his very large community will miss him. Jan and Nathan, I wish you the strength to continue through this most difficult of times. Steve Shirtliffe

Dear Jan & family, my deepest condolences - Neil was such a wonderful man, so enthusiastic for life, As well as the skiing part, I remember him as a fellow computer guy, much more able than me! Take care, our thoughts and prayers are with you!

Jan, Nathan and Claire,Neil began teaching at Caswell when I left, but he still included me on some weekend ski trips with students and it was him who found me, on a wrong route taken at Eb's Trails when I (who was supposed to be tracking down a lost student) took the wrong turn myself.  It didn't take him long to help me out, not with a ""I told you not to go left on the curve"", but a big smile and a ""I knew I'd find you here!"" Not long after did I learn of the positive influence he had on my husband Tyler when he worked with Neil during his teaching internship...years later he did electrical work in many of my classrooms and then taught our young daughters skiing through the Nordic Ski Club. Through the years, Neil and Jan were instrumental in teaching many students to ski and love it through their work in schools...how lucky was I to hear that voice and see his enthusiasm with kids year after year!   We recently discovered another of Neil's passions when our daughter this year joined the Fireside Singers. ""He's the kindest man, mom, he knows everyone's name and is just so friendly..."" Mr. Neil wore so many hats, and had so many skills, but above all was his zest for life and his passion for people.  We are all heartbroken but his gifts will never be forgotten and that twinkle in his eyes will never fade.

It was only this evening I heard of Neil's passing and I am so sorry for your loss. I always enjoyed receiving updates from him about how his memorial roses were growing and sharing stories with him about the adventures he had with my brother. Be blessed with the happiness he shared with others in this world and take heart he will be missed. I am sure he and Eric are wiring heaven with new stars to shine down on your family.

Dear Jan and family, I was deeply saddened to hear about Neil’s sudden passing. Our staff at Lester B Pearson was so amazing, and Neil’s cheerful and uplifting spirit made our school a better place. I still remember Neil talking about the birth of Nathan and how in awe he was of this little person coming into his life, someone that he didn’t yet know, but a precious boy who he would share all his love and life with. Neil always spoke from his heart and the love he had for his family was his biggest pleasure in life! My prayers and condolences are being sent to you and your family! ✝️🦋Sincerely, Leanne Smithson

Dear Jan, My heart goes out to you and your family. I hope there is some solace in knowing the many ways his boundless energy, talents and commitment impacted the lives of his loved ones and broader community. I was privileged to sing with Neil in Fireside, and my family was privileged again years later to have Neil as an instructor in our kids' Nordic ski program. Wishing much love and healing to you and yours. Karla

To the Sedgwicks, on behalf of the Hardy family please accept our deepest sympathies. We remember Neil fondly as our very close and good neighbor of many years as well as being a fine fellow, Ross Hardy

Jan,We were very saddened to hear of Neil's passing.  I had a wonderful time with Neil in 'herding' kids at the Jackrabbit lessons at Wildwood and Kinsmen park.  He was always willing to help out.  And was always a positive presence.  It was evident how much he enjoyed skiing, and how enthusiastic he was about passing on that enthusiasm on to the kids.We are thinking of you during this time.

Sorry for your loss ( we were surprised to hear Neil's name mentioned at the Mass we attended Sunday in Saskatoon while on our way back to Calgary). It has been many years since I've seen you two. I can still see his face. Still hear his voice. Because we serve a living, risen Lord, we know Neil lives and we will see him again. Loving thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.~ Don and Virginia Battiste

Neil was kind enough to give me several rides, even out of his way, when I sang for Fireside. He was one of the very early influences I had from the ancient faiths that eventually caused me to become Catholic six years ago. I vividly remember a conversation during one of those rides about the Ave Maria, and his wonderful explanation and defense of the veneration of the Mother of God. It was not until many years later that I developed a devotion to Mary, and I credit that memorable conversation as my first encounter with understanding the place of Mary as my spiritual mother. Neil and Jan's kindness to me is one of my fondest memories from the Fireside years. He most likely never found out that I became Catholic, but I know we'll meet again. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord. Lord, have mercy.

Neil was one of the most positive, encouraging, and welcoming people I've ever met. He was always willing to have a conversation and his smile was contagious. God has gained another beautiful voice in His choir. My deepest condolences to your family.

Dearest Jan, Nathan and Claire,Ron and I are very, very sorry to hear of Neil’s sudden passing. My memories of Neil when I worked with him at Silverwood Heights School are of man who had an unwavering faith in his students’ potential. He had boundless energy, radiating joy, kindness and optimism. And oh how he loved to sing! We also enjoyed his visits to our home when he came to do electrical work, most recently this month. Neil will be missed so very much by so many. Please know that we are holding you close in our hearts and prayers. Phoebe and Ron

It was with such shock that we learned of Neil’s passing. We knew him as our son Taylor’s grade six and seven teacher. Neil always made learning fun. He could turn a cold and bleak day into an amazing opportunity to learn something exciting. His handstands on desks were legendary. As parents we always knew that Neil had each and every child’s needs in mind. We were not surprised at all to learn that after completing a successful teaching career that he would turn to another learning endeavour. We were forever grateful to have known Neil and are terribly saddened for his family. Our hearts go out to you now and in the future.

So sorry to hear of the loss of such an incredible man. He was my science teacher at LBP and always one of my mostfavourite teachers in my life. My deepest condolences
