Donna Lee Dumont (Hoddinott) passed away peacefully on October 20th, 2025 in Saskatoon with her children close by. We are grateful for the care the staff at Royal University Hospital provided her in her final hours.
Donna Lee was born in Beresford Lake, Manitoba to Mae (Lakey) and Alfred Cyril Hoddinott on Feb 9th, 1939. She lived in different northern communities in Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan all of which contributed to her love of the “bush”.
Donna added colour to the lives of those around her- not only through her art, but through her passion, her curiosity and her sense of humour. Her love of her family and creating something new filled her world. Pablo Picasso said “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” Donna lived her entire life as an artist.
Donna is survived by her children Karen Campbell, Russell Atkin and Leah Dumont (Aaron), Verna Markey (Shaun; previously married to her son Kenneth - deceased 2009); her grandchildren Stefanie Parks (Jonathan), Sarah Campbell-Krausert (Ben), Kelsey Atkin (Evan Howes), Richelle Atkin (Scott Barker), Liam Dumont (Nadeige), Ayden Dumont, Michael Atkin (Chelsea), Kala McKenzie (Alex), Nichole Atkin (Jack Daly) and great grandchildren Lucy, Laela, Annie, Ben, Addie, Lewis, Sam and Joshua. She was predeceased by her parents, brother Kenneth Alfred Hoddinott and son Kenneth Atkin.
Donna Lee received a Bachelor of Fine Arts and then a Bachelor of Education in 1986. However, she was a teacher well before receiving a degree. Sharing her creativity and love of art came naturally to her- whether it was teaching ceramic classes, art classes, or various workshops at Gabriel Dumont Institute. Whether she was teaching adults or any of her grandchildren/great grandchildren, she saw each individual’s strengths and was able to guide, support and nurture their skills. Donna’s love of art was visible in her day to day activities, her many art shows and in the various books she either wrote or illustrated. She was proud of her heritage and to work and be a part of the Metis community. Whether our mom, your “nana” or your friend, she was deeply loved and enriched all of our lives. She will be greatly missed.
Her Celebration of Life will occur on Saturday, Nov 8th, 2025 at Gabriel Dumont Institute located at 917 22nd St. West in Saskatoon at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to either the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Arthritis Society.
