Dr. J. Stephen passed away on March 28, 2019 at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon after a 4 year courageous battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents Win and Don. He is survived by his wife Amelita, son Donnie, daughter Joy (Naj Madelo), and son Ace (all of Saskatoon), his sister Marce Rottman (Rudy) of Hamilton and his brother Paul (Beth) of Sarnia, ON. Steve grew up in Sarnia and attended Northern High School where he excelled in football and track & field. Steve also played for the Sarnia Legionnaires Jr. B hockey team for 3 years and was also president of the student’s council his senior year at Northern. He went on to attend Brown University in 1965 where he again excelled in football and hockey for 4 years. Steve played for the Montreal Alouettes in 1970 where they won the Grey Cup that year. He then received his Ph. D. in Psychology from the University of Ottawa. After university he held various positions in the criminal justice system at both the provincial and federal level. He then went on to the University of Saskatchewan where he was most recently a Professor and Director of the Forensic Behavioral Science and Justice Studies. Steve travelled around the world for many years for the Canadian Government helping with bettering the criminal justice system in Canada. Steve was always the consummate gentleman and athlete. As much as he loved and as strong as “Big Steve” was on the ice and on the field, he first and foremost had a strong love for his family. Steve will be dearly missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank Dr. Basi and his staff for their kind and caring compassion when Steve needed it most. A Private Family Service will be held in Saskatoon. Later his cremated remains will be returned to Sarnia, ON. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the University of Saskatchewan.
